Congressional Country Club Named 2011 Jemsek Winner
for Golf Course Excellence

Association Awards to be Presented Feb. 9 at Annual Conference

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Jan. 5, 2011) – Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., will receive the NGCOA’s 2011 Jemsek Award for Golf Course Excellence at the NGCOA Annual Conference in Orlando. The Jemsek Award, along with the association’s other 2011 awards, will be presented at the NGCOA Celebration Dinner on Feb. 9.

Congressional was founded in 1924 by five former U.S. presidents and a long list of business tycoons interested in a place to play golf. The club has successfully transitioned to a facility that offers a wide range of activities, including swimming, tennis, bowling and dining, for families as well as some of Washington’s most distinguished leaders. The Jemsek Award is named for Joe Jemsek, who began Jemsek Golf, a family-owned golf course ownership and management company based in Chicago.

Other 2011 award winners include Dan Clark, owner of Willow Creek Golf Course in West Des Moines, Ia., who will receive the Don Rossi Award for significant and long-lasting contributions to the association; Linda Rogers, owner of Juday Creek in Granger, Ind., and the late John Dodge, a former president of the Michigan golf Course Owners Association, who will receive Champion Awards in recognition of service to course owners in their states; The Woodlands Golf Performance Center, owned and operated by Sequoia Golf, which will receive the Player Development Award; and Roy Clark, owner of Liberty Hills in Bellefontaine, Ohio, who will receive the Paul Porter Award, which honors an owner who has established a legacy of commitment, service and leadership.

Finalists for the NGCOA’s Course of the Year Award are Hidden Valley in Norco, Calif.; Walnut Creek in Marion, Ind.; and Thunder Canyon in Washoe Valley, Nev. The winner will be announced during the Celebration Dinner.

The NGCOA Annual Conference begins Feb. 7 with a new educational track focusing on the “Golf Event and Facility of the Future.” The event will be held in conjunction with the Club Car NGCOA Golf Outing at the Waldorf Astoria Golf Club in Orlando. A full day of education is scheduled on Feb. 8, when such subjects as retailing success, customer service, generating cash flow, sustainability, attracting new customers and pricing strategies will be discussed by industry experts. Opportunities to learn about issues affecting the golf business continue on the exhibit floor of the Golf Industry Show Feb. 9-10 as part of a new educational track being offered alongside exhibits from the industry’s leading manufacturers and service providers.

NGCOA members and non-members can register for the conference at www.ngcoa.org/conference.

The NGCOA’s Annual Conference runs concurrently with the 2011 Golf Industry Show, Feb. 9-10, at the Orange County Convention Center. The Golf Industry Show, which attracts leading manufacturers and service providers, is presented by the NGCOA and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
