The year 2023 was another extremely busy one for Better Billy Bunker. From renovations to restorations to new construction, over 250 courses had BBB installed! A sampling of projects is highlighted below.

Medinah, IL: OCM Golf and Leibold Irrigation have completed a massive project on Course #3 at Medinah. The number of bunkers increased by approximately 40%, all of which were constructed using the BBB method. The project also included the re-routing of several holes. Medinah will host the President’s Cup in 2026!

PGA FRISCO MAKES GRAND DEBUT
Frisco, TX – After much anticipation, two courses located at the new home of the PGA of America opened their doors in May of 2023. The courses designed by Gil Hanse (Fields Ranch East) and Beau Welling (Fields Ranch West) both included Better Billy Bunkers throughout. BBB certified installers Heritage Links and Wadsworth Golf were the contractors for this massive project. The first of many major championships was conducted on the East course when the Senior PGA Championship took place in late May.

TAKE ME TO CHURCH
Oakmont, PA – A world famous bunker complex joined the BBB family in 2023. The well known “church pews” at Oakmont CC had Better Billy Bunker installed by Total Turf Golf Services. This was a part of the larger, full course renovation as Oakmont prepares to host the 2025 US Open.

Edina, MN – We were proud to be a part of restoring the storied Interlachen Country Club outside of Minneapolis, MN. McDonald and Sons worked closely with architect Andrew Green and superintendent Brian Boll to restore Interlachen. The facility chronicled the entire process with informative videos. An example can be found HERE. The Golf Course Builders Association of America was also able to show the importance of collaboration between its members in a video that will be released soon.

SPLENDID IN SPAIN
The year 2023 was exceptional for BBB-licensed installer Mafer Golf. They completed many projects, including Las Colinas Golf, which was designed by Cabell Robinson. It was also an honor as one of their previous BBB clients, Finca Cortesin, hosted the Solheim Cup! Finally, the renowned Arabella Golf Group began BBB work on their third course (Golf Son Quint), which will continue into 2024.

GIVING TUESDAY A SUCCESS FOR GSCAA FOUNDATION
We were honored to again offer a donation matching program for the GCSAA Foundation. As in previous years for the Disaster Relief Fund, the matching program was a great success. Thanks to the generosity of GCSAA members, facilities, and vendors, the Foundation was able to reach its Giving Tuesday goal of $10,000!
