Last Update :5/15/2020 City of Richmond and Accomack County delay implementation of Phase 1 re-opening
Earlier this afternoon Governor Northam announced that the City of Richmond and Accomack County would delay implementation of Phase 1 re-opening plans for two weeks via an amended Executive Order 62. Similar to the Northern Virginia region delay we shared earlier this week, this means that Accomack County and Richmond would begin Phase 1 re-opening no earlier than midnight on Thursday, May 28. Today’s announcement was somewhat expected after both localities made formal requests to Northam over the last 24 hours.
It is important to note that the counties surrounding Richmond – Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover – are not impacted by Northam’s approval of Richmond’s request; in fact, leadership in the three counties all signed a letter to Northam reiterating their support of Phase 1 re-opening beginning at midnight tonight along with their plans to move forward. However, the announcement by the Governor does go against his earlier statements that delays needed to be regional in nature.
