Special Notice - Maryland Sales Tax Bill Threatens the Golf Industry
Shared by Luke O'Boyle, Chevy Chase Club, Coalition of Concerned Clubs
Friday night the House Ways and Means Committee voted favorable with amendments on HB1354 which will expand the 6% sales tax on a myriad of services including Golf Course and Country Club Memberships and Services as defined by the NAICS Code 713910. We continue to ask Clubs to alert your members and ask them to express their opposition to this tax to their Senators and Delegates. For your reference I have reattached the bill, the amendments and the fiscal note as well as a list of the Montgomery County Legislators and their email addresses. This is a statewide bill that will apply this sales tax to all clubs in the State of Maryland.
HB1354 is scheduled to go to the House Floor for consideration on March 10. There is no similar bill in the Senate and if we are not able to stop it in the House we will shift our focus to the Senate to try and amend it or defeat it in the Senate.
