Advocacy Forum Reminder - April 25th in DC

I am sending this reminder about our upcoming Advocacy Forum and National Golf Day event scheduled for April 25 and 26.

Also wanted to remind you there are two separate registrations required for these events. Some members had assumed that by registering for the Forum they were also registered for National Golf Day events.

The "talking points" for this year's NGD have not been finalized but we anticipate them to be similar to last year's. 

As you can imagine NGCOA and GCSAAA are getting a lot of media request following the President's action on WOTUS. They are creating an optic that relief from this rule benefits the President's golf courses without bringing awareness to the many single course operators who has limited resources to manage the burden of project delays and federal permitting cost.

NGCOA sees this rule impacting the independent golf course owner in the same way it impacts the small farmer. Golf course operators have always worked closely with their local and state agencies to ensure their fertilization plan meets all local, state and federal regulations. Having the federal government review and approve irrigation, drainage and fertilization plans would severely impact time and cost of running their business.

The plan for NGD is to focus on the great work the golf industry is doing to protect and improve the environment. We will not take a position on the Rule's future. Since any further action on this issue will be non-legislative we feel we would be better served using this forum as a way to communicate that we care about our environment and have taken leadership roles in making a difference.

We would be happy to hear how you feel about this approach and any ideas you have in creating a positive message in an effort to change the media's view, if that is possible.

You may recall in an earlier meeting Kate brought up the idea of NGCOA creating a Political Action Committee. I want to update you on where we are on this. We are moving forward with the creation of the GOLF PAC (name still has not been finalized). We wanted to get your thoughts and concerns with this effort. Some of you may have experience with creating or administering a Political Action Committee, so we would be interested to hear your lessons learned. While we would be considered a " connected PAC" as an association, we will be working to include other WAG partner associations as they do hold membership status with NGCOA. We would be a national PAC and would only support national election candidates.
