WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia –Two Rivers Country Club at Governor’s Land, Williamsburg’s premier private golf and waterfront community, has completed the $1.6 million renovations of its 18-hole Tom Fazio-designed championship golf course. The picturesque course, which Golf Digest named a Top 10 in Virginia, was perfectly rebuilt to USGA specifications with new greens, bunkers and more.

Two Rivers Country Club is now the only golf course in Williamsburg and greater Hampton Roads featuring all 007 Bentgrass greens. According to Chris Warring, PGA Head Golf Professional at Two Rivers Country Club, the new heat- and salt-tolerant greens will provide golfers with consistent speed and playability throughout the year. Golfers will also appreciate the other renovations made to the course, including:

·         A complete re-build of all the bunkers with firmer sand that makes them easier to play out of;

·         Expanded practice tee, that’s nearly doubled in size from the previous tee, with seven target greens, a practice bunker and putting green; and

·         New bridges, which are easier for players to navigate on a golf cart.

The extensive renovation project, which began in summer 2012, involved more than 7,000 tons of greens mix, 4,000 tons of gravel, 3,500 tons of fill dirt and 1,800 tons of bunker sand. Spence Golf, Inc., based in Greensboro, NC, was the golf course construction company for the project.

“The team at Spence Golf and at Two Rivers Country Club worked diligently with a short window of time to seed the new greens last year and to return the course to the exceptional level of playability that our members expect,” says Brent Graham, CGCS, Director of Golf Maintenance at Two Rivers Country Club who managed the project. “We have exceeded this objective, and the course is easily now one of the best in Virginia.”

Attesting to the stability of the community, this renovation project was fully funded by Two Rivers Country Club without any member dues assessments.
