NGCOA VA is very sorry to inform you of the passing of Ken Timmons, a key player in the Richmond golf scene with Willow Oaks CC, Salisbury CC and The Foundry GC. Here is his obituary:
TIMMONS, James Kenneth, of Powhatan, passed away March 10, 2013. He was born April 1, 1925 in Greenville, S.C., to the late James Mark and Miniver Elrod Timmons. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marian Free Timmons; three sons, James Kenneth Timmons Jr. and his wife, Carol Harlan Timmons, Christopher Mark Timmons and his wife, Deborah Patton Timmons, and Jeffrey Clay Timmons and his wife, Nella Fulton Timmons; six grandchildren, William Matthew Timmons and his wife, Jennifer Dickson Timmons, Margaret Carlyle Timmons, Christopher Russell Timmons, William Clay Timmons, Mark Fulton Timmons and Paul Jefferson Timmons; two great-grandchildren, William Jacob and Richard Grayson Timmons. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson University in 1949. He served as a Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers in World War II and the Korean War and was awarded The Bronze Star. He established J.K. Timmons & Associates in 1953. Along with several prominent businessmen, he developed the Salisbury Subdivision in 1956. He was responsible for numerous residential subdivisions in the Metro Richmond area including, Reeds Landing, River Oaks and Greywalls. He served on the boards of Virginia Commonwealth University, Collegiate Schools, Presbyterian Schools of Christian Education, YMCA Metro, The Bank of Powhatan and other community organizations. He was an avid outdoorsman and in particular, enjoyed the game of golf and worked to start Willow Oaks Country Club, Salisbury Country Club and the Foundry Golf Club. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Shirley Eggleston and Winfree Williams for their many years of devoted service and care. His happiest days were spent at Greyfield Farm working in his garden. A Memorial Ceremony will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, at Salisbury Presbyterian Church, a reception will follow.
